Software requirements
- Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 installed on the desktop computer (free download from the Microsoft
web site)
- Microsoft .Net Compact Framework 3.5 installed on the desktop computer (free download from
the Microsoft web site)
- Microsoft ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center installed on the desktop computer (for synchronizing the PDA with the
desktop - free download from Microsoft).
Hardware requirements
- Windows Mobile Enabled PDA (e.g., HP iPAQ 210) or phone (e.g., Treo 700w)with Windows
Mobile 5.0 or above. The Phone or PDA needs to have an SD slot
(comes standard with most models) and Bluetooth connectivity or a CF compact flash.
- 2 gb Sandisk SD Storage Card. Sandisk branded cards can retrieve information up
to 4 times as fast as other cards.
- Laser Scanner (either compact flash (CF), Bluetooth wireless handheld or Bluetooth
wireless ring scanner)
- Note: Axim X5 (X50's and X51's are ok) does not support a 2GB SD card. However,
Version 2.0 will run on a 1gb SD card. You can download the pricing information
as well as the titles lite files.
- Optional: To use our optional "Live" real-time lookup feature, you will need a connection
to the internet (e.g., WIFI, smart phone or pc connection)
Recommended PDA
HP iPaq 210
The Treo PDA will only work if it has Windows Mobile Operating System 2003 or later
installed. MediaScouter will not run on Palm or Blackberrry Operating Systems. The
Treo model must have an expansion slot available for a storage card, and if it comes
with BlueTooth, you can use a BlueTooth scanner.
Barcode Scanners
Socket CompactFlash barcode scanner (5M or 5P) NOT 5E!
The advantages of the CF type scanner include:less expensive, attached to PDA and
therefore receives power from PDA, easy to install and user can look at the screen.
The disadvantages include requiring a CF slot which does not come standard with
the TREO 700w.
Socket Bluetooth wireless barcode scanner (7M or 7P) NOT 7E!
Socket Bluetooth wirelss ring scanner (9M or 9P) NOT 9E!
The advantage of wireless type scanners is that they are easier to hold than the
PDA or smart phone. In addition, it is more discreet. The disadvantages include:
more expense, requires separate charge, extra effort to look at screen (make decisions
via sound), requires Bluetooth wireless which may be interfered with all other bluetooth
devices in the immediate area and requires extra steps to connect.
MediaScouter may work with several other types of PDAs, smart phones and scanners.
However, installation and operation may be more difficult.
